The programme will bring the Ukrainian nuclear fleet in line with international safety standards, including those of the International Atomic Energy Agency, EBRD said.
Two Ukrainian reactors, Khmelnitsky 2 and Rivne 4, have already been modernized with the support of EBRD and Euratom.
The current safety upgrade programme, due to be completed by the end of 2017, will involve, depending on the reactor type, up to 87 measures to address design safety issues, and the introduction of organizational improvements for accident management.
Euratom, the European Atomic Energy Community, will also provide EUR300 million towards the total cost of the programme, EBRD said.
