The Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) claimed on its Telegram channel that Ukrainian Armed Forces had carried out an attack using drone’s on the plant’s external radiation monitoring laboratory. “This laboratory provides continuous monitoring of the radiation situation around the station site, monitoring meteorological parameters and collecting data necessary to predict possible response scenarios in case of emergency situations with radiation consequences,” ZNPP said. “Such actions pose a threat not only to nuclear safety, but also to the radiation monitoring system, which may affect the timeliness of assessment and response.”
However, there were no casualties or critical damage to equipment and the station and all systems are operating normally, the statement said. The station’s management notified the IAEA inspectors present at the site about the incident. This came a few days after a drone attacked killed one of the workers at the plant.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on the international community to force Ukraine to stop its attacks on the ZNPP and to censor the Kiev regime. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova emphasised that Ukraine is deliberately creating radiological threats in the heart of Europe.
She said that it expects the International Atomic Energy Agency Secretariat and its Director General, Rafael Grossi, to take an uncompromising stance on Ukraine’s actions.
IAEA said on X it had been informed by the ZNPP that a drone targeted its External Radiation Control Laboratory (ECRL). “There were no reported injuries and it is not yet known if the strike damaged the lab, which is located outside the ZNPP perimeter. IAEA team at the site has requested access to the lab.”
