An unmanned aerial vehicle has crashed near the power units of the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP). The drone did not detonate when it fell, which according to a statement on ZNPP’s Max and Telegram channels. “As a result of the incident, there was no damage or injuries. Specialists are working on the site, conducting a survey of the territory and assessing the circumstances of the incident. The Zaporizhia NPP continues to operate normally. All technological processes are proceeding normally, and safety parameters are under strict control. The radiation background at the station site and in the observation area is within the normal range.”
The statement, which attributed the drone to the Ukrainian armed forces, added: “At the same time, the very fact of an attack on the territory of Europe’s largest nuclear facility is unprecedented. The attacks on the nuclear power plant are a crossing of all possible red lines, a manifestation of nuclear terrorism and irresponsible madness capable of endangering the security of the entire region.”
Earlier, the operators’ town of Energodar experienced some 20 drone attacks. As a result of an attack on the territory adjacent to the ZNPP, two employees were injured while driving a car as part of their official duties, 100 metres from the plant’s perimeter. The attack was multiple in nature, which made it difficult to evacuate the victims quickly. They have now been taken to MCCH-145, where they are receiving the necessary medical care. Their condition is being monitored.
“Such actions pose a direct threat to the lives and health of personnel working at nuclear infrastructure facilities. Nuclear engineers should not be targeted. The safety of employees and the stable operation of the plant should remain a top priority. Such attacks are nothing more than terrorism,” ZNPP said.
