Areva has won a contract to perform outage services at three German nuclear power plants over the next several years.
The contract covers maintenance and in-service inspections of primary circuit components, opening and closing of the reactor pressure vessel and refuelling activities at Isar 2(1410MW), Brokdorf (1410MW) and Grohnde (1360MW).
All three units are pressurised water reactors (PWRs) operated by E.On.
Areva said the contract reinforces its position as a key partner for service activities for all German utilities. Last summer the French company signed a long-term contract with RWE for inspection activties at the Emsland nuclear power plant, which covered non-destructive examination of steam generators, the reactor pressure vessel and other primary components as part of periodic regulatory assessments.
Areva is also actively involved in the decommissioning sector. It recently completed work on decontamination of the reactor pressure vessel and internals of the Isar 1 nuclear plant, reducing the level of radioactivity by more than 95%.
