Russia has signed three contracts with India for the supply and assembly of equipment for the Kudankulam plant in India. Russian officials said that the contracts, worth a total of approximately $1 billion, also include a “delegation” of up to 300 Russian specialists. According to Russian nuclear export company, Atomstroyexport, Russia will announce a “series of tenders” for third parties to supply equipment under one of the three contracts signed with India. Russia and India signed a general contract for Russia to supply the two VVER-1000 units to India in February, while the go-ahead to pour first concrete at Kudankulam was given in April. Start-up of the plant is expected to take place at the beginning of 2007.
