Rosatom has installed the turbogenerator stator at unit 2 of the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Türkiye. The stator is one of the heaviest components of nuclear power plant equipment. It weighs 437 tonnes and is 12 metres long with a 4.2-metre diameter. Installation of equipment was carried out using specialised rigging and hydraulic systems.
On the eve of the operation, a set of preparatory works was carried out, including strengthening the zero-level ceiling in the turbine room, installing temporary support structures, as well as installing a special rail track for transporting equipment to the site. Raising the stator to the turbine mark (18.5 metres from ground level) was carried out without a crane using a hydraulic rigging system. The technology was previously tested when lifting and installing the stator in the turbine room at unit 1.
“Commissioning work continues at the first power unit, while construction and installation operations are being carried out sequentially at other power units,” said Sergei Butskikh, Director General Akkuyu Nukleer. “With the participation of an experienced Turkish company specialising in transportation and rigging, we transported, lifted and installed the turbogenerator stator in the pre-design position at unit 2. Thus, in the turbine room, we are gradually moving from construction to installation of turbine unit components, paving the way for further installation and commissioning work.”
