Power was successfully restored to the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) through the Ferosplavnaya-1 330 kV power line, bringing an end to a loss of offsite power after approximately 90 minutes. The plant’s emergency diesel generators, which had been activated were safely shut down. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said the team at the plant is continuing to monitor the situation.

In March, ZNPP’s only other operational power line, the 750 kV Dneprovskaya line had been disconnected leaving the plant dependent on the Ferrosplavnaya-1 line. The IAEA confirmed the loss of connection and initiated discussions with both sides (Russia and Ukraine) on establishing a local ceasefire to enable repairs. However, that line remains disconnected. This was the 14th time during the military conflict, that ZNPP has lost all off-site power.

Evgeniya Yashina, ZNPP’s Communications Director, told RIA Novosti that the cause of the latest power outage is not known but attempts to arrange a local ceasefire to enable repair to the Dneprovskaya line were continuing.
