Nuclear power legal advice, UK (Deadline: 21 February 2011)

Copeland Borough Council wishes to appoint legal advisors for a period of up to 4 years to provide advice to the Council in relation to nuclear power, nuclear waste and other energy related matters. Specifically the Council may require legal advice and support in respect of its activities in:

— taking forward the council’s engagement with the managing radioactive waste safely partnership and local stakeholders, and potential further/future engagement with government,

— developing Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs) with utility providers, new nuclear power station operators and other energy and non-energy related major project promoters,

— negotiating planning obligations and community benefits with energy-related project developers and promoters,

— applications for development consent for major infrastructure projects as submitted to the national Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) or its successor body, and the process by which the Council will engage with both the applicants, the Commission and the community,

— applications for energy/nuclear related developments considered under Town and Country Planning Act legislation,

— national energy and waste related and major infrastructure policy consultations,

— de-commissioning of redundant facilities,

— re-processing of spent fuel,

— internal and external governance arrangements related to nuclear and energy matters.
