New chairman for the French nuclear regulator

Pierre-Franck Chevet has been appointed Chairman of French nuclear regulator ASN for a period of six years. He succeeds André-Claude Lacoste who was appointed Chairman of ASN in 2006 and whose mandate expired on 12 November 2012.

Chevet began his career in ASN in September 1986, where he occupied several positions or responsibility, including deputy head of the Nuclear Construction Oversight Office, deputy director in charge of nuclear power generating reactors, and then assistant to André-Claude Lacoste.

He has also served as head of the regional directorate for industry, research and the environment of the Alsace region (1995-1999); for the Nord Pas-de-Calais region (1999-2005), where he was also appointed head of the Ecole des Mines in Douai, and as a special advisor to the prime minister with responsibility for energy, industry, research and the environment (2005-2007).

In February 2007, Chevet was appointed Director General at the General Directorate for Energy and Raw Materials. Since July 2008, he has been Director General at the General Directorate for Energy and Climate.

Margot Tirmarche, an epidemiologist, has also been appointed ANS commissioner for six years. She succeeds Marie-Pierre Comets.
