NRC extends Millstone licence

30 November 2005

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has renewed the operating licence of units 2 and 3 of Dominion’s Millstone power station for an additional 20 years.

The plant, located about 5km southwest of New London, Connecticut will see unit 2 operating until 31 July 2035, and unit 3 extended to 25 November 2045. Dominion submitted its renewal applications in January last year.

The NRC review concluded there were no environmental or safety concerns that would preclude licence renewal.

Millstone's two units generate a combined 2020MWe, or 48% of Connecticut's electricity needs.
