Belene delayed by Greens

23 November 2005

Environmental groups have succeeded in challenging the Bulgarian government on the planning process for the Belene nuclear power plant.

Bulgaria's Supreme Administrative Court accepted arguments from the Greens to delay the tender procedure for building the plant as the governmental go-ahead was based on an environmental impact assessment that is itself still being challenged.

The next hearing is due on 21 March 2006.
