The site and environmental surveys will last over two years, PGE said in a statement. They will cover a variety of elements including geological conditions, natural environment, current land development, as well as logistics and infrastructure.

PGE EJ said it would develop a detailed scope and schedule of works once the contract is signed.

Poland plans to build its first nuclear power plant with an ultimate capacity of around 3000 MWe, and the first unit coming online around 2025. The country is currently heavily dependent on fossil fuels for electricity generation, with almost 90% of its energy coming from coal.
