25 April 2017

Work is continuing at Pevek in Chukotka to put in place the infrastructure for Russia’s first floating NPP (FNPP), the Akademik Lomonosov.

Builders have begun commissioning a concrete production facility on site, which is scheduled to begin operation in mid-May.

Meanwhile, complex mooring trials of the FNPP have started at the Baltic Shipyard in St Petersburg. Construction of the FNPP is in its final stages and after  the completion of sea trials, it will be put into operation, with commissioning in Pevek set for 2019.

The 70MWe FNPP will partially replace the retiring generation capacity at the Bilibino NPP and Chaun thermal power plant. Completion of construction of coastal and hydraulic structures is planned for early 2019.
