Westinghouse wins Leibstadt I&C upgrade

3 July 2002

Kernkraft Leibstadt (KKL) and Westinghouse have signed an agreement making Westinghouse the exclusive supplier of instrumentation and control (I&C) upgrades for KKL's Leibstadt, a BWR in northern Switzerland. It is Westinghouse's first major I&C upgrade project for a BWR outside the US.

Work slated for the initial phase of the upgrades has been valued at $13 million and includes the replacement of the plant's computer during the refuelling outage scheduled for the third quarter 2004. Other work slated for the phase involves simulator upgrades, installation of operator stations and a plant data network, and preparation of overall standards for system design and architecture. Westinghouse said that subsequent upgrades to the entire I&C system would take place over the next 10 to 15 years.
