Westinghouse completes repair at Wolf Creek

18 August 2005

PCI Energy Services, a subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric, has completed repairs of steam generator bowl drain welds at Wolf Creek nuclear station.

Westinghouse worked with the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corp (WCNOC) to repair Alloy 82/182 cracking in the bowl drain welds on all four steam generators with Alloy 52 filler materials.

Custom tooling and special repair processes had to be developed for this first-time project, discovered during Wolf Creek's most recent refuelling outage.

Machining was performed dry to avoid potential contamination of the bowl shell.
