Weir to close nuclear group

28 September 2001

UK engineering company Weir has announced it is to discontinue the Manchester-based nuclear engineering group Strachan & Henshaw.

The company is seeking to acquire other valves and pumps businesses, after offloading its non-core operations. The changes are likely to result in around 330 job losses as Weir closes three businesses and sells its software and IT division.

In a statement the company said: “Current economic conditions are likely to provide greater opportunities to grow by acquisitions.”
