A two-week peer review by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has been completed at the Zaporozhye NPP, Ukraine nuclear utility Energoatom said on 27 May. The team of experts included representatives of NPP operators from Hungary, Russia, Armenia, Iran and Ukraine. During the peer review, they monitored the work of staff and equipment, communicated with employees, studied documentation, compiled reports and passed on all information needed during the audit to colleagues who were working remotely.
"I am very grateful to both teams - my station colleagues and my experts - for the fact that this peer review by WANO is very successful,” said Layosh Hadnad who headed the expert team.
The review covered several areas: leadership, operation, operational experience, operational focus, repair, engineering, equipment reliability, emergency preparedness, radiation safety, and significant operating experience reports. Each expert in his field identified which areas need to be improved, as well as strengths, which should be shared with other NPPs. Energoatom said the plant “passed the inspection with dignity, demonstrating to international partners full openness and efficiency in providing information”.
