28 September 2001

A lower than average increase in greenhouse gas emissions in the US reported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for1999, has been attributed partly to a "significantly increased output" from the country’s upgraded nuclear plants. Emissions increased by 0.9% in 1999, compared with an average annual rise of 1.2% from 1990 to 1999.
