TVO contracts Westinghouse for-service inspections at Olkiluoto nuclear plant

Olkiluoto nuclear powr plantWestinghouse Electric Company has signed a long-term contract with Finland's Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) for in-service inspections of all three reactors at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant.

The contract covers two boiling water reactors (Olkiluoto 1 and 2), and the EPR pressurised water reactor (Olkiluoto 3).

Westinghouse said it will deliver advanced inspections for several major components, including the primary tubing and nozzles of the Olkiluoto 3 steam generator, and inspections of the reactor pressure vessels and internals at Olkiluoto 1&2.

"This contract is important for the safe and efficient operation of all the Olkiluoto units, today and far in to the future," said Mikko Kosonen, senior vice president, safety and security at TVO.

Westinghouse noted that a "high degree of automation and remote operation of the inspection solutions" aim to reduce critical path, lower the dose exposure to personnel and allow tasks to be performed simultaneous on the component being inspected.

Westinghouse intends to continue to collaborate with TVO to further develop high-quality inspection solutions and to reduce the outage duration.

In February, Framatome announced it had signed a series of service contracts with TVO to support for the long-term operation of the the Olkiluoto 3 EPR.

GE has also secured a contract for maintenance and services on two steam turbines and generators at Olkiluoto 1&2 until 2038.
