Transformer order for US AP1000 projects

5 September 2011

Westinghouse Electric Company has placed a multi-million dollar order for twenty unit transformers from Efacec USA, Inc, the US arm of a Portugese company. The transformers will be used for the first US AP1000 facilities, which are planned for VC Summer in South Carolina and Vogtle in Georgia.

The transformers will be designed, built and tested in Efacec’s US facility in Rincon, Georgia.

Mike Bauer, director of sales & marketing for Efacec USA commented: “Our global technology combined with our local manufacturing and testing facilities enabled us to offer a competitive, best-in-class solution.”

Efacec USA is a relatively new player in the US market, but has been manufacturing transformers since 1957 at its plant in Portugal.
