Tianwan 3 ready to install RPV

13 May 2015

Specialists from Russia's Atomproekt and Gidropress say they have supplied all the design documentation required to install a reactor vessel for unit 3 at Tianwan NPP in China.

The reactor vessel, which is already at the site, will start being installed inside the reactor building on 13 May.

Tianwan, which is located in Jiangsu province is already home to two operating VVER reactors. Tianwan 3 is one of two units that are currently under construction, and negotiations are underway for a further two Russian-designed units (7&8).

Installation of other key reactor equipment at Tianwan 3, including the steam generators, main circulation pumps and pressurizer began in February.

In December the containment dome was installed at Tianwan 3, an operation that too just two hours.
