TEPCO gets MOX go ahead

29 April 1999

The local governments of Kashiwazaki city and Kariwa village have agreed to allow the burning of MOX fuel in Kashiwazaki-Kariwa unit 3 BWR. The authorities turned down a referendum proposal made by local community representatives.

The decision means the Tokyo Electric Power Company can approach the national government for approval. MOX is likely to be loaded into the reactor during its outage in 2000.
