Tepco and JNFL to cooperate on Fukushima decommissioning

Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (Tepco) and Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited (JNFL) on 27 January announced an "Agreement on Technical Cooperation on Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station".

Under the agreement, Tepco will receive technical cooperation from JNFL regarding the handling and analysis of alpha nuclides. “By concluding this agreement and further strengthening the decommissioning promotion system that brings together all of Japan's strengths, we will continue to safely and steadily promote medium- to long-term efforts toward decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station,” a joint-statement said.

JNFL said it handles and analyses alpha nuclides at its Rokkasho reprocessing plant on a daily basis, “and by providing the technology and knowledge cultivated in that process to Tepco for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, we believe that we can make a significant contribution to solving various technical issues related to decommissioning, and we will actively cooperate with them”.
