Steam generator arrives for Vogtle 3

15 June 2015

Georgia Power says that the second 650t steam generator for the Vogtle 3 AP1000 has arrived at the construction site near Waynesboro, Georgia.

The component, which was assembled in South Korea, was shipped to the Port of Savannah and was transported to the Vogtle site by train last week.

There are two steam generators per unit in the AP1000 design. They are used to convert water into steam using the heat produced by the reactor core.

Georgia Power also announced that the pressurizer for Vogtle 4 was delivered to the site in late May. The 225,000-pound pressurizer was fabricated in Italy.

“The steam generator is the latest international delivery illustrating the global supply chain in place supporting the first new nuclear units built in the United States in more than three decades," Georgia Power said.
