Spain’s GDES allies with France’s Erba

9 August 2016

Spain’s GD Energy Services (GDES), which specialises in the decommissioning of nuclear and radioactive facilities, has signed an alliance with French company Erba that includes the acquisition of 60% of its nuclear and industrial division. GDES said it has been working in the French market for some years through its company GDES France, which has focused on chemical cleaning, surface treatment and other technological projects for the nuclear industry. GDES said its objective is to win painting and surface treatment contracts. Erba has three divisions – construction, food distribution and nuclear-industrial – with revenues of around €15m ($16.7m) a year. The nuclear-industrial division represents 20% of Erba’s business, with revenues of €3m a year and 20 employees. This division will become the foundation for a new company GDES Erba, GDES said. The first project for the new company GDES Erba will be in association with French nuclear services company Onet Technologies. For this project - Extrados - GDES will be responsible for the application of a carbon fibre coating to guarantee tightness of "enclosures subject to pressure" in various French NPPs.
