Severe Transportation Accident Technical Peer Review, USA (Deadline: 11 September 2009)

The NRC Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), Division of Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation (SFST) is responsible for performing safety reviews for commercial casks and cask systems for the packaging and transportation of radioactive materials pursuant to 10 CFR 71. SFST has published several NUREG/CR reports on the reviews pertaining to the Baltimore Tunnel Fire (July, 2001) and the Caldecott Tunel Fire (April, 1982). Two severe transportation accidents are under review, I-880/580 Junction (MacArthur Maze) in Oakland, CA and the I-5 by-pass tunnel (Newhall Pass) in Santa Clarita, CA.

Requirement:

The contractor shall provide an independent, fully documented technical peer review of the work done by the NRC on severe, long duration fires in transportation accidents, including those accidents discussed above.
