Safety upgrade for Dukovany

30 October 2000

A consortium formed by Framatome and Schneider Electric has signed a contract with the Skoda JS to upgrade the safety systems in all four units at the Dukovany plant in the Czech Republic.

The contract covers the instrumentation and control systems for reactor protection and operation under accident conditions.

State-of-the-art Spinline 3 digital protection systems developed by the consortium will be deployed. This technology was recently introduced into the Fessenheim plant in France during its second ten year outage, and into units 3 and 4 at the Kozloduy plant. It will be installed in 2002 in the Qinshan plant in China.

The four Russian-designed VVER 440-213 units at Dukovany, the first of which went on-line 15 years ago, will be gradually upgraded between 2005 and 2009.
