Pevek, the most northern port in Russia, has hosted a meeting to discuss the commissioning of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear heat and power plant (FNPP), moored at the town.
The meeting on 26 February was attended by representatives of plant owner/operator nuclear utility Rosenergoatom and the government of the Chukotka Autonomous Region.
The main topics discussed included the construction of the FNPP’s coastal infrastructure facilities and the development of social amenities in Pevek.
The residents of Pevek and the city administration were primarily interested in how the floating nuclear plant can take over the function of heat supply to the city.
As it was announced during the meeting, the heat supply pipes have been connected to the city grid.
“‘We have completed the installation of supply lines, and we will commence the flushing and the hydrotests according to the scheduled approved by Pevek administration,” said Vitaliy Trutnev, the director of Rosenergoatom’s FNPP construction and operation department. “
We have also made arrangements with the Chauny district utilities service with regard to temporary heat delivery to the city taking into consideration the upcoming city grid upgrades, which will be in place shortly.”
The next step will be to upgrade the heat system of the city. The installation of private heat supply stations at homes are scheduled for summer and autumn. By summer, connection of the 5th Pevek district will be completed. All work related to establising the regular heat supply from the FNPP are due to be completed by 2021.
Commissioning of the FNPP is planned for summer, Trutnev said.
“In early March, we have planned additional trials, following which we will submit a document to Rostekhnadzor with a view to receiving a Statement of Compliance. This document confirms that the facility has been constructed in accordance with the design documentation.”
Development of social amenities in Pevek was discussed during the meeting.
The FNPP delivered the first batch of electric power into the network of the Chauny-Bilibino power hub on 19 December 2019 and by 25 February since its connection to the grid, the plant had has delivered over 21GWh of electric power into the network.
