Russian agreement with Paraguay

Russia and Paraguay on 18 October signed a memorandum on of understanding on peaceful nuclear cooperation. The document, signed by Paraguayan Foreign Minister Eladio Loizaga and Deputy Director of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom Nikolay Spassky, envisages cooperation in the development of nuclear medicine, joint production of isotopes, construction of facilities for the irradiation of agricultural products and assistance in the establishment and development of a nuclear power infrastructure in Paraguay.

It was further agreed to review the possibilities for joint mutually beneficial projects including construction of a nuclear science and technology centre with a research reactor. The parties will also consider the possible signing of a Paraguayan-Russian inter-governmental agreement on cooperation in peaceful uses of atomic energy. Working groups will be set up to develop joint projects.
