Russian state nuclear company Rosatom has submitted a translated version of an environmental impact assessment of the proposed Baltic NPP to Lithuania.
The Atomenergoproject initiative is planned for the oblast of Kaliningrad, which despite being politically part of Russia, borders Poland and Lithuania.
Deputy director-general of Rosatom Kirill Komarov said that despite the fact that the Convention on the transboundary impact of nuclear facilities (in Espoo, Finland) is not ratified, it will still inform most member states.
"We conducted public hearings in the Neman district of the Kaliningrad region, and Germany, Poland, and Latvia; we are preparing for Estonia and would be pleased to carry out a similar hearing in Lithuania, as soon as we get an invitation from the authorities."
