Rio Tinto retains stake

30 May 2001

Rio Tinto failed to find a suitable buyer for its 68.4% stake in Energy Resources Australia (ERA), owner and operator of the Ranger uranium mine. ERA will now be managed under Rio Tinto’s Energy Product Group.

In Namibia, output at the company’s Rossing uranium mine (in which it has a 68.5% stake) totalled 724t U3O8 in the first quarter of 2001, more than 13% down on the previous quarter.
