Restart of Millstone 3 pushed back again

28 February 1998

A scheduled inspection of Northeast Utilities’ idled Millstone 3 nuclear power plant by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission was pushed back by about a month until March because the utility still had too much unfinished work. Millstone 3 (1150 MWe PWR) is the newest and the largest of three nuclear units at the Millstone station, which has been closed since March 1996. Northeast had been hoping to have Millstone 3 back on line around 1 April. The NRC commissioners must vote on whether to allow restart. After the utility gets NRC approval for Millstone 3, it will aim to bring Millstone 2 back on line. Remedial work to bring Millstone 1 up to NRC standards has been suspended pending an economic feasibility study.
