Renewables via nuclear, says Lancet

29 October 2007

Nuclear energy should be embraced as a means of avoiding unhealthy fossil fuel energy generation, and to give governments time to increase renewable energy generation, according to an article in UK medical journal The Lancet.

Richard Horton wrote that although nuclear energy is not a healthy long-term solution for energy policy, because of the risks it poses, "with appropriate regulatory safeguards, countries should adopt nuclear energy technologies urgently as a transition between fossil fuels and more renewable sources of energy".
