Title: Supply of normal heat flux (NHF) first wall (FW) panels for ITER

DESCRIPTION:

The works concern the supply of about 240 panels for the first wall of ITER. It mainly covers the manufacturing engineering, the material purchase and the manufacturing of a series of panels up to factory acceptance testing.

The ITER blanket/FW system is the innermost part of the reactor directly exposed to the plasma. Its basic function is to provide the main thermal and nuclear shielding to the vacuum vessel and external reactor components. Its concept is a modular configuration mechanically attached to the vacuum vessel. The blanket modules consist of a water-cooled austenitic 316L(N)-IG stainless steel (SS) shield block on which a separable FW panel is mechanically attached. The FW panels subject of this supply have typical dimensions of 1 m x 1.5 m and weigh about 1 ton. They consist of a bi-metallic support structure made from CuCrZr alloy bonded to a 316L(N) SS backing plate on which are joined beryllium tiles that directly interface the plasma. Each FW panel is cooled by pressurised water with 100 °C inlet and 140 °C outlet.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Total duration estimated at 5 years. First phase is fabrication of full-prototype for qualification — approximately 18 months. Successful performance of the full-scale prototype during high heat flux testing (not a part of this contract) will qualify the supplier for the subsequent series production. Second phase is supply of panels — this second phase is foreseen to begin late in 2013. The entire series supply is subdivided into 12 to 14 series of modules having the same overall geometry and called variants. The contract may be placed with division into lots, where the number of variants per lot will be decided before the start of the series fabrication.
