Practical joke closes plant

29 November 2000

A fake bomb left as a practical joke by an employee led to an alert at Diablo Canyon, California’s largest nuclear power plant.

Jeff Lewis, spokesman for Pacific Gas and Electric, said that security officers had discovered a device which looked like a bomb in a building which houses support staff. “We believe the fake bomb that was discovered was there as a practical joke within the small workforce. We will take appropriate personnel action.”
