PKA receives operation licence

12 January 2001

The Pilot Conditioning Plant (PKA) at Gorleben has been awarded an operation licence. The plant was built to condition used fuel elements in such a way that they can be stored without reprocessing in Pollux containers before being placed in a repository for radioactive waste. As the licence does not include a so-called “immediate execution” order, commissioning of the plant may be delayed pending legal challenges.
