Pickering A unit 1 restarted

6 October 2005

Ontario Power Generation has synchronised Pickering A unit 1 to the provincial electricity grid for the first time since December 1997.

Commissioning and testing of unit 1 continues on the reactor and related systems throughout the plant. The unit is expected to be ready for commercial service and available for dispatch by the system operator within a few weeks.

Major construction on the project started last July and was completed 12 months later. Project costs to the end of August were C$995.2 million (€696 million).
