Alexey Zhukov, chief engineer of Rostov NPP has been appointed deputy general director - director for Production and Maintenance of NPPs at nuclear utility Rosenergoatom. Unit 3 of the Rostov NPP, a VVER-1000 pressurised water reactor, reached 100% of its rated power on 14 July in a staged procedure that followed technological regulations, Rosenergoatom said. Gorbunov, said the third unit's equipment "showed reliable performance" and that tests would be carried out over 15 days to verify the design characteristics of the equipment. The unit achieved first criticality in November and first power was in December 2014.

Four units were originally planned at the Rostov site in the 1980s. Construction of units 1 and 2 began promptly, but was frozen and they eventually entered commercial operation in March 2001 and October 2010. Unit 4 is under construction.
