Operational tests completed at unit 4 of China’s Yangjiang NPP

4 October 2016

Unit 4 of China’s Yangjiang NPP in Guangdong province completed pre-operational testing on 23 September, China General Nuclear (CGN) announced. CGN described the tests as a "dress rehearsal" of plant operations before fuel loading. Six units are planned for the Yangjiang site. The first four units are 1,080MWe CPR-1000 pressurized water reactors, and units 5 and 6 will be ACPR-1000s. Unit 1 entered commercial operation in March 2015, followed by units 2 and 3 in June 2015 and January 2016. Unit 4 is scheduled to start up next year. First concrete for Yangjiang unit 5 was poured in September 2013, and for unit 6 following three months later. When all six reactors are in operation (scheduled for 2019) the NPP total capacity will be 6,100MWe.
