Nuvia wins £8.4m Sellafield decommissioning project

12 February 2010

Nuvia has beat seven competitors to win a contract for a decommissioning project at the UK's Sellafield.

The tender's scope of work comprises a detailed design proposal for the safe, efficient and controlled demolition of the B204 SEP Head End Stack (Phase 1). The contract will also include the implementation works to remove the stack, make good the roof integrity and remove the waste to an area which will be advised by Sellafield Ltd (Phase 2).

It also recently beat three other competitors to win a tender to support removal of sodium coolant at the Dounreay Fast Reactor. The current NaK system relies on a dip leg, which has potential to become unavailable due to blockage. Various options have been considered to minimise the risk of dip leg blockage but a concept design is now required for an alternative NaK removal system.
