Nuvia Limited wins Magnox Berkeley ILW processing contract

16 August 2011

Nuclear engineering specialist Nuvia Limited has been awarded a contract for the retrieval and processing of Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) from the chute silo at Berkeley site, operated by Magnox Ltd on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). The contract has been awarded under a new ILW framework being operated by Magnox, to which Nuvia is appointed.

The Framework will last up to ten years with a total value up to £300million, and covers the retrieval and packaging of ILW at Magnox sites throughout Great Britain. Nuvia is supported on this framework by NES, the Shaw Group and Rolls-Royce.

This initial contract on the Framework pertains to the retrieval of miscellaneous activated components (MAC) from the silo and packing them into shielded containers, and involves Nuvia Limited, NES and Shaw Group.

This new ILW contract follows Nuvia’s earlier retrieval and packaging of miscellaneous activated components at the Magnox Trawsfynydd Site.
