NRC continues heightened oversight of Indian Point 2

30 April 2001

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission said it would continue “heightened oversight” of Indian Point 2 in Westchester County, New York, until Consolidated Edison corrects continuing performance weaknesses. An NRC report, based on an inspection conducted in late January and early February, found “weaknesses in the ability to retrieve, verify and assure the quality of engineering products.” The NRC inspection also found problems with Con Ed’s corrective action programme. Under a deal signed in November 2000, Entergy has agreed to purchase the Indian Point 1&2 power plants, plus three natural gas-fired turbines and other assets, for $502 million.
