NRC approves uprate for Vermont Yankee

8 March 2006

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved plans by Entergy Nuclear to increase the generating capacity of Vermont Yankee by approximately 20%.

The approval includes several licence conditions Entergy must comply with, including increasing the power level in small increments while NRC staff monitor the process until the higher power level is reached.

The power uprate for the unit, located in Vernon, Vermont, will increase its capacity by approximately 100MWe.

The agency's review required over 29 months.
