North section of GBII enrichment plant begins operation

The north plant at AREVA's Georges Besse II North uranium enrichment facility in Tricastin, France, has started commercial operation.

The start-up of the North plant, which comes two years after the South plant entered operation, is "in accordance with the project schedule," AREVA said.

It also revealed that delivery of the first cylinders of enriched uranium to AREVA fuel fabrication plants and customers can being in April 2013.

Georges Besse II is being ramped-up gradually between now and 2016 when it is expected to reach full capacity of 7.5 million SWU per year.
