New Energoatom head again

30 May 2001

Yuri Nedashkovsky has been appointed executive president of Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear utility, Energoatom, following a period of nuclear management restructuring. The move, ordered by government decree, ends the situation in which Energoatom had two presidents, Nedashkovsky and Nur Nigmatullin, and formally terminates Nedashkovsky’s former position as president. In February, Nigmatullin was appointed state operator of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants while retaining his role as deputy fuel and energy minister. Nedashkovsky’s responsibilities include management of Energoatom, although Nigmatullin still has overall authority, dealing with problems of the nuclear industry and nuclear energy in general.
