NDA takes on Nirex role

2 April 2007

From April 2nd, the UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Agency (NDA) takes on Nirex's functions for geological disposal of radioactive waste.

The UK government previously transferred its shares in Nirex to the NDA and since then, the majority of Nirex staff moved to the NDA.

A new NDA directorate has been established, called the Radioactive Waste Management Directorate (RWMD), which will be led by Richard Waite, previously a NDA engineering director.
