NDA launches LLW tender

5 May 2006

The UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has launched a tender for its first competitive nuclear decommissioning contract for the management and operation of the low level waste (LLW) repository near Drigg in West Cumbria.

The contract will be awarded by late 2007 for an initial five year term at a value of approximately £200mn ($324mn). A key feature will be the development of a UK-wide LLW plan covering all 20 NDA sites and the design and build of an additional vault at Drigg for the storage of LLW, together with the development of additional infrastructure including rail works.
