A consortium of M+W Group (75%) and James Fisher Nuclear (25%) has been awarded a £150 million (€190m) contract to develop a nuclear waste store at the Sellafield site in West Cumbria.

The contract scope includes the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the Box Encapsulation Plant Product Store Direct Import Facility, which will enable the receipt and storage of grouted Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) packages.

"We are delighted with the award of this contract," said Peter Greenhalgh, M+W Group CEO Energy. "M+W Group specilises in the delivery of major complex projects and we look forward to working with our consortium partners, James Fisher Nuclear, to providing Sellafield Ltd with a facility that will be a key asset for the UK in addressing the country's long-term nuclear decommissioning needs."

The project is due for completion in 2017.
