Murmansk wants Kola life extension

27 August 1999

Russia MINATOM and the Murmansk government plan to ask Rosenergoatom to provide funds to extend the operating lives of two 440 MWe VVER units at Kola. Unit 1 and 2 will reach the end of their lives in 2003 and 2005, respectively.

The government is also considering two new units at or near the Kola plant. It hopes to receive credits for the funding from the Bavarian State Bank in the form of equipment and services from Siemens.
