MOX fuel approval for Fukushima 3

30 November 1998

The governor of Fukushima Prefecture, with the local governments of Okuma and Futaba, have approved TEPCO’s plan to load MOX fuel into Fukushima Daiichi Unit 3.

On 4 November, TEPCO applied to the MITI to change the reactor establishment permit to incorporate MOX cores. As MITI is known to be pushing the utilities to use MOX, the approval is a foregone conclusion. TEPCO seems to have overcome all the obstacles to the use of Pu fuel.
